An Ode to the Pig

Pigger, Pigger, Pigger, where do I start?
You’ve touched our souls and you’ve stolen our hearts
You, my dear, were a heck of a pup
We’re so dog gone privileged, it can’t just be luck
The way you and Toby would just dig and dig
You snorted along like your namesake: the pig
That bunny was new and you wanted her out!
Eating that dirt and digging about…
You’d roll on your back to scratch at an itch
Instead of the yard, you’d poop in the ditch
You’d lay in our beds and scoot us away
You’d bring Jo a toy, just wanting to play
Your curly pig tail tried so hard to wag
But display of emotion? You never lacked that
Just shake your whole butt to show your affection
With that little face, you’ll never know what’s rejection
The snort when you ate; the spring in your step
These memories of you… I can’t believe that you’ve left
Your dual colored eyes: one brown and one blue
They’d peer up at us as we swooned over you.
From Cupid to CuPIG to Pigger, our pig! Finally!
There’s no dog so special, so not ordinary, you’ll see
The first day we got you, you knew how to fetch
Once you shook your poor toy and hit Uncle Bill in the head!
First for us you were a dog-sitting adventure
They never thought it would lead to your capture
The cutest pig we ever did see
We could not let you go, oh, no, siree
Now it’s all over; you can finally lay down
It’s going to hurt so bad now that you’re not around
At least now we know you’re in a much better place
All the treats that you want for your sweet little face
We love you so much, my dear little pig
We’ll miss you forever, but this isn’t your end
