Squirrel! (Hi there!)

We haven't had too many squirrels in our subdivision until recent years since our neighborhood was built from scratch and, consequently, didn't have too many trees, and what trees were there were planted when the houses were built. Now that our house is hitting the 20-year mark, the trees are nice and thick and bushy enough that during the summer, I can't see the crossroad that's just down the street.

Lately, I've seen a number of squirrels hanging around. The other night, there was one that was creeping along near the curb, and all of a sudden it hopped up onto the mailbox post; it was 90 degrees off from where it had been. I've never seen a squirrel do that before; usually, they'll climb, not hop. After seeing that, I thought to myself, five bucks says we'll start to see squirrels up by the house. Sure enough, one day later--that would be yesterday--I saw something scurrying across our porch. At first I thought it was a chipmunk, but no--it was a squirrel, and it came back around onto the porch again, this time looking in one of the sidelights. It bounced away again, then came back a third time, that time making a beeline from the grass to the cement. Very strange, but then most of them are.

That's not even the only critter I've seen in the past couple days crawling around the front of the house; stupid cat made an appearance the other night as well. Our house is hopping in preparation for fall, apparently.
