My personal WGN "Are you kidding me?" moment

Note: There's a bit of TMI.

If I set my TV to turn on in the morning, in theory waking me up, I'll have it turn on at 6:30. Lately, though, I've realized that I don't actually wake up; instead, I lie in bed absorbing the news by osmosis and don't truly wake up for 45 minutes to an hour. I decided it was then pointless to try to have the TV wake me up and in recent days haven't set the TV alarm. Strangely enough, the past couple days I've still woken up early. Hmm. Anyway, today I awoke at 6:40, 6:45, and decided to put the news on. Holy cow, there's a car chase going on. The basic story is that a van cab got carjacked in Des Plaines, and when I first tuned in the van was driving around Evanston, including along footpaths on the campus of Northwestern University. I'm thankful this happened as early as it did, because there weren't any pedestrians that I saw; imagine if it happened two hours later. Yikes.

Skycam 9 followed the van into the city. I realized this could take a while, and, well, I'd just woken up and had, er, business to attend to. I really had to go. Might as well go now and come back to watch the ending of it. Yes, even after the whole bridge debacle, I decided to take my chances. Except I took way too long, and by the time I returned the perp was being held against a cop car. Rats. You have to realize this guy was driving erratically--we saw him driving down the center of roadways and crossing into oncoming traffic--and running red lights; one of the anchors kept gasping when the van would go through intersections. Yet the dude tried really hard not to get into an accident, pausing at intersections before proceeding. What took him down was a bus, which he was passing on the left, making a left-hand turn. The van nicked the driver's-side front bumper before sliding into a pole--really, slamming into it--and escaping out the window. He tried to run but slipped on the snow, and a sure-footed cop caught up to him shortly after. This is what I missed.

Now, why did I miss this? Because this morning I had the Energizer bladder. I kept going and going and going. It reminded me of the peeing contests I'd heard some of my male friends had (including someone who's been on here in the past). Like, they used to drink bottles of pop and then see how long they could continuously pee. I'm not sure what all I had yesterday, but I could have entered one of those contests this morning. If figures that the one morning I want to pee quickly, I can't. Well, at least there did end up being a good reason for me to step away from the action.
