Week two. First full week of school for the semester. I know, I have such a hard load; it really doesn't make a difference. However, the correct teacher made it to piano class yesterday, so that was good. She didn't explain why she'd missed on Wednesday. I'm just glad it wasn't serious. I told her how I'd played something different than my classmates on Wednesday, and she said with classes like this, it's common for people to move faster or slower than everyone else. Basically, she'll run through stuff with all five of us, and then have us play individually so she can check how we're doing. Also, apparently I was at the special keyboard. It wasn't hooked up to the main keyboard up front, and then my headphones weren't hooked up properly either. The teacher was supposed to be able to hear me play, and I should have heard her and my classmates through the headphones when set to that function; uh, no. I ended up with an entirely different set of headphones, which worked out, because I had to turn the volume way down with the original set and the teacher couldn't hear me play. Anyway, it seems like that will be fine.
Meanwhile, I'd had issues with my French homework, and on Sunday night I emailed my teacher about it. Laura was kind enough to give me a few examples, and I found more in an old French textbook I got twenty years ago. I was all prepared to give it another shot last night when I signed on and saw that my teacher, realizing we hadn't learned the subject matter yet, had left a note apologizing and that she'd removed that exercise from the homework. Phew. So I was sort of relieved, but at the same time I kind of wanted to try it again. The people that did manage to figure it out will receive extra credit, too.
Also, and semi-random: If you live in the general area, you probably heard that a plane crashed literally across the street from my school Saturday night. It was a small plane and the two people aboard died. It's always sad when something like that happens, but honestly, had it happened at a different time on a different day, and had the plane landed even a few yards to the east, there easily could have been more fatalities. I can't tell if they got it cleaned up really well or if the pieces were just that small, but aside from a bunch of police tape in the yard of the house/garage where the plane ended up, you'd never know anything happened. It's pretty amazing, really, and I'm very thankful no one on the ground was hurt. On a weekday during the day, particularly around the change of classes? A *lot* of people would have been in that area.
