It's no surprise that budgets everywhere have been cut. My town cut its holiday budget by two thirds, but people have stepped up so that our downtown would still have holiday lights and spirit. In fact, our Celebration of Lights happened last night. We drove past last night after it happened, and there's a number of lit trees along the Riverwalk. Anyway, I had no idea that my little town could make the national news regarding this, but it did.
I can't embed the video, but here's a link that should be good for today and maybe through the rest of the week:

http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerindex?id=9199251Click on "Cities Trim Holiday Budgets." There you'll get to see the mayor talking to the reporter along the Riverwalk, as well as several citizens discussing what they and others have done to get my town into the holiday spirit. Plus, you can see our main downtown street, a melange of older buildings and strip malls, though it's framed so that you mostly see the older buildings, at least.
