Fewer stars in her eyes

I mentioned yesterday that, at some point this summer, we will be painting my room. I also mentioned that it needed it. However, I neglected to mention why. Most of the time, I act like an 80-year-old woman. The rest of the time, though, I'm twelve, and part of my room reflected that: I still had glow-in-the-dark stars on my walls and ceiling. No, I'm not kidding. Part of it is that I was too lazy to take them down. Obviously, I have a thing for things that glow, and that played into it as well. But, well, when a woman hits her 30s, she should probably put the stars into storage for whatever children she might hope to have, and a decade later, take them out to entertain her flock of birds since no man in his right mind would go for a woman who admits to having said glow-in-the-dark stars on her walls for so long. I will admit that not all are down; some were put up before I moved the furniture around and I simply can't reach them right now, and I did leave up one constellation of sorts that I really like because I want to try to get a picture of it at night when it's glowing; then I'll take it down. The adhesive used to keep the stars up sometimes left marks. Some of it is still there. Thankfully, some of it did come off cleanly. And some of it...

Okay, so here's the other reason my walls need painting badly. Back in the day, Kirby must have had a parasite of some sort. Basically, he produced worms. It was thoroughly disgusting. And those worms produced moths. Naturally, with Kirby being kept in my room, it was infested. Thank goodness everything calmed down a number of years ago, but the remnants of those disgusting little bugs remain. When pulling down the stars, I was reminded of that, because behind one star was this sort of crustiness that clearly has been there for over a decade; the stars are from around when I graduated from high school. This is aside from all sorts of marks on the walls from where bugs were killed, never mind the plain old mistakes from the builders that were never covered over properly. My room is in sore need of a makeover. I'm just the slightest bit excited. I may end up taking before and after pics, but we'll see--my room's not in the greatest shape ever and would need to be cleaned even before the before pics.

i'm twelve, kirby, cleaning, comments, painting
