Last week, I got a call from Victoria. She'd performed a Josh Groban song at Martha's wedding which had both piano and violin accompaniment. She wanted to do the song at church this coming Sunday and wondered if I'd play the violin part on flute. She's asked me to do this in the past and I always said no, mainly because I worked on Sundays and the logistics wouldn't work out. Realize that, from fall 2005 to when the store closed, I was not about to give up my Sundays except for death or camp. And even death...well... But I am available, and I didn't say no, though I didn't exactly agree, but what the heck. She said she'd try to remember to copy the music and mail it off to me. As of yesterday, I hadn't received it; if I didn't receive it today, I was going to call. At least if I got it today I'd still have a chance to read through it and go over there on Saturday to practice. Well, late last night--close to 10--the phone rang and it was Victoria. Oops, I never sent off the music, but the pianist wants to rehearse tomorrow night at 7:30 or so; can you make it? Um, sure. So now I get to drive down to Evergreen Park tonight. Yay. And she was giving me alternate directions than what I took last time, as 95th Street is really bad; construction has it down to one lane in places. Great. Oh well. It will get me out of the house for a while, and that's always a good thing, and she kind of sang the part to me over the phone last week, so it should be easy enough. I haven't done anything like this in years, though I did it a bit in college. We'll see how it goes.
