So what did I find this week? Oh, no, I di-in't...
This was cut for self-preservation. You may guess why and then read on through. Go on, guess.
So the most eventful thing that happened for much of this week's basement adventure was that the power blipped for the second time this morning. *sigh* I'd just reset a couple of clocks an hour and a half earlier. What a pain. Otherwise I was spending my time breaking down boxes--as in, cutting them apart and putting them into a recycling bin. Yes, I'm finally getting rid of them. When I filled up the bin, I tried to think of what else I could do, and I realized that I could move the remaining non-Marie doll boxes next to the Marie boxes. I went to turn on the light, and when I got to that area I noticed this smell. I noticed it last week too and possibly the week before--strange. It's like a faint burning smell, though nothing appears to be amiss. I think if I'd noticed it last week that, if there truly was burning, that the house would be a bit crispy by now. Anyway, I started looking around, and I happened to look up and noticed a vent above my head. Hmm, could the smell be coming from there, like a relative to the burning dust smell? And then, above the vent in the vent/ductwork, there was a cigar box. I was tempted to open it but the surrounding cobwebs shied me away. However, a few feet over, there was something else up there, something that sort of looked like a lamp base, maybe? And then I moved back to get a better look and...oh, my...is that a bong? Holy crap, I just found a bong in my basement. Now, remember, my family built this house; unless the builders were having a very good time working on the basement, this was brought in by a relative. Frankly, knowing my parents and seeing pictures of them from the '70s? This is not a surprise. And no, the smell was *not* related. Delicate flower that I am, I know what that smells like, but only third-hand. Yes, third-hand. There is another light down there, behind where the vent was, so I turned it on to view things from another angle. It was clear that the bong had been there for a long, long while. Still? Oh, my. Yeah, I finished up soon after that.
