Happy New Year!

Oy with the poodles already.
(A cookie to anyone who knows what that's from. Laura, I'm looking at you.)

I'm tired, but okay. Yesterday and last night were far better than today was, but today wasn't super horrible or anything. It was just sort of there, and I spent a foggy-headed day working on discounts (we have three pages' worth of books coming off discount tomorrow...it took me the whole day to work on them). It was perfect, actually, because it was just the sort of nonthinking task I needed to make the day go by. And it wasn't super-duper busy, which helped, but we did make plan by a whopping $1. Sweet. It didn't look like we would make it at all.

So I'm tired because I actually went out last night! Sweet. If I made New Year's resolutions, perhaps one would be to get out of the house more. Well, I got out of the house (well, really, back into my house) today, so I'm one for one. Aside from my parking issues (which Aaron and Erik got to watch...great), the party was fine. Frank, I'm glad to see you made it home alive (and Carol, if you're reading this, let me know if you *do* want me to castrate him...I forget why anymore, but I can come up with a reason if needed :P ). Erik, it was good to see you. You seemed taller than I remember you. I don't know why. Rob, I kept thinking about what you said, like I have superpowers or something, and it amused me all day. (BTW, Rob has figured out part of the mystery--my superpower's the ability to confuse people with words, or something similar...I don't remember anymore. So, if you're curious, ask him. But he doesn't know much and I can't share, because I don't know how the situation ends, either. Yay, more mystery.)

The Bears game was a bust--yeah, it can't be too good when your punter throws the best pass of the game--but we had fun watching people box and bowl on the Wii. I didn't try it, but that's probably a good thing. I'd be one of the people busting a hole in the TV, and seeing as it was Nick and Heather's, that would be even worse. I had two glasses of sparkling grape juice (and, yay, I wasn't the only one) as well as 7-up, so you know it was a wild night for me. ;) They also had Famous Dave's, so I snarfed some of that, and of course I had to eat Erik's cookies. No, that's not a double entendre, he really did bring cookies. I took some pictures, and the funny one should be of Toad's ear and coat as he heads down the stairs at 12:01. Dude, your coach changing back into a pumpkin or something? Man, I thought I'd be the first to leave...and in fact I was the *last*. How did that happen? (Well, actually, I thought only a couple of people were leaving, and everyone was saying goodbye to them, and then this huge mass of people walked out the door. Um, okay.) The neighbors set off fireworks just after midnight, and as we watched from upstairs we saw a car turn onto the street. It stopped in front of the box of fireworks; I thought perhaps the car just couldn't get around it (the box was in the street). Then a guy got out of the car. What I couldn't see from upstairs was that the guy was in uniform, and was a cop, and that the neighbor probably was going to get ticketed. Nice. Lastly, because I don't remember anymore, Nick and Heather's dog, Duke, is a beer drinker. I missed him sticking his tongue into somebody's beer bottle, but he kept attacking Anders whenever he tried to drink his beer. As in, Duke practically attached himself to Anders's face. Wacky, but amusing.

I'm glad I did go out. I'm upset that I didn't sleep as long as I would have liked today (stupid internal alarm clock that gets me up at 7 even when I don't actually want to get up then), but I can sleep tonight.

work, friends, bookstore, party, new year's eve, holiday
