So Thursday wasn't all bad. Laura and I had made tentative plans before all the excitement, and we still got together that evening, which was a great diversion for me. We went to Chili's for dinner (where I had a burger with bleu cheese dressing...and still liked it) and then back to her house for a rousing game of Sesame Street Monopoly (with Follow That Bird in the background). Okay, so, I totally got my ass kicked. There was something about the Cookie Monster square that kept attracting my Big Bird token, and since Laura owned it and put "parking lots" (AKA houses) on there, well, that meant Cookie Monster's cookies were more expensive than Mrs. Fields'. It was still fun, and I'm game for a rematch sometime in the future, except we'll have to start earlier so that I'll have more energy. (We called the game at 11, which was fine, because I was about ready to start paying her in blood platelets.)
Anyway, during dinner, Laura started telling me about these camps her store is running. She has one next week where she needs pony beads. Those are the larger, thicker beads that little kids play with, or if you've ever seen beaded key chains, those are made using pony beads. Well, when I was in college, we did an activity on a retreat involving beaded key chains, and since I led that project I still have a number of pony beads. I've been wanting to get rid of them for years but didn't want to just throw them away--aha! I can give them to Laura, and she gets something she needs for free. Rock on. I found all my old, unused beads...then decided to give her the beads from all the old critters I'd made. I don't need them, and they've just been taking up space in a drawer. I got rid of all the beaded critters I found, save for the dinosaur I made. It's 3D and took forever to make, so I'm more partial to that than any others. Plus, I have a picture of them:
(The only one I couldn't find was the lobster, which is fine, as it was made for me.)
There was a point in time when I was very into making these critters, even making them for people who couldn't attend the retreat:
All but the dino in that picture (same dino as in the other pic) went to good homes.
So, anyway, I have plenty of beads for Laura, good for at least 15 decent-sized projects, and possibly closer to 20. Now all we have to do is get together so I can give her the beads. That's easier said than done these days.
