This brightened my day.
The office manager had a family situation to attend to this morning and had let me know earlier in the week that he'd be gone and wasn't sure when exactly he'd be coming in. Since other people are out of town at the moment, that would have left me all alone for an unknown amount of hours, so we asked Del if he could come in. He did, and we worked together for a good four and a half hours, and it was good to spend time with him again. I don't get to talk to him much anymore, though at least now that his start time has been upped to 3 PM Monday through Thursday, we get a bit of overlap. Him starting at 3:30 really wasn't cutting it--there's too much for me to do before I go some days. Three o'clock gives us some breathing room.
Del took off soon after the manager arrived, so he missed some of the fun. The manager also had computer updates done, and one thing that happened is that he cannot print to the big printer back in the office area right now. This means random stuff keeps shooting out of my little printer, which really freaks me out because I don't know it's coming, and when I haven't tried to print anything recently I don't know what's happening at first. Then I look down and see what popped out and I go, ...oh. Ah. And walk the paper back to his desk.
The manager is still playing catch-up from being off for a week and a half, and all this extra stuff is not helping him. So, he wasn't exactly in the best mood when he called in our IT guy, who is a friend of the business, to say, can you help me out here? And around 4 PM, in he walks, and I said to him, what can we break for you today? He laughed and said he was checking on stuff for the manager, then went, you're an angel around here. Aw, that's really sweet! I'm glad to know I'm not super bothersome. But also, tell my mom that. When he came back around after working on the manager's computer, I let him know some other stuff I've run into, and he did take care of a few things, then asked if I knew of anything else. Not yet, I'd said. Then, shortly after he left, I discovered I no longer had access to a shared file across our network, which sucked because I'd just scanned something into that folder and was planning to email it to someone, and was going to do that repeatedly, but it was like 4:30 and I said screw it, this is next week's problem.
At dinner tonight, I gladly shared my angel story with my parents, and dad really laughed--I'm delightful, you're an angel, and your mother...is the devil. Yeah, mom was not appreciative of that comment. Hey, this is what other people are telling us. I'm not making this up here.
