I came downstairs today to discover a letter opener on my placemat at the kitchen table. I picked it up and put it on mom's, which is covered in stuff from this convention she went to on Sunday. She was in the dining room on her computer and could see me, so she made a comment about how dare she leave something out of place. Well, yeah, I take up my whole placemat at breakfast. Please keep it clear of your stuff.
The reason the letter opener was there was curious: Mom's phone broke. As in, it came apart at the seam while in her phone case. Can phones get botulism? My parents had to use the opener to pry it out of the case, apparently. I don't know exactly what happened or when, only that you could see the line of thin foam on the inside of the phone where the parts should press together. Welp, guess someone's getting a new phone today. Good thing it was today and not Saturday, when we had to have our tickets on our phones to get into the show. Well, except mom walked right past the ticket takers without paying attention, but that's another story.
She did get something new, and per dad it was free, so that was nice, but I think it's pretty basic. He said it took an hour to transfer all her stuff from the old phone, and it wasn't because it was slow-going, it was because her old phone wasn't cooperating. There may well have been stuff that didn't transfer. She is not having much luck with electronic-related things lately, given that she had to abandon her old AOL account recently. And then grandma called to say she couldn't put her phone on its charger, like it wouldn't go in. Grandma is not the cleanest person ever so my suspicion is that it might just be dirty, but she wouldn't be able to clean that on her own. Mom was asking me, what do you have going on this weekend. Uh...a concert? Oh, right. So who knows how soon that will be resolved, but at least she does have a second phone again in case the cell phone dies before she can charge it again. This is the big week, where she has a doctor's appointment on Friday, so at least mom will be seeing her soon. Not that she will know what to do, but at least a younger person can take a look at things.
