There have been marquee signs teasing construction up on Fabyan for a few weeks now, and the date had changed at one point, but the most recent date was that it would be starting the week of 5-28-24. On Tuesday, they wasted no time in setting up barrels and such. I'm not entirely sure what they're doing, but the middle three lanes are blocked--the inner straight lanes plus the left turn lane onto Western. The lanes don't condense westbound until after the two cross streets, which is nice, because you can still turn on them and not impede the flow of traffic. However, the way it's set up means that if you're trying to make a left turn onto Western, you kind of can't see. The big orange barrels are up to keep you out of the lanes as you travel along Fabyan, but then they have the long flat barricades to show you cannot get to the center-most lanes at the intersection with Western--but that blocks your view of eastbound traffic, which is three lanes over from where you're trying to turn. I did it the first couple nights this week, when I came home later in the day and there was less traffic plus they were using headlights. Last night, when I came home on time, I opted to turn earlier and went through the neighborhoods. Pleasant drive. Safer turn. I don't know how long the construction is supposed to last, but I may be making this choice for a while. I'm concerned there may be accidents because of the lack of sight lines over there.
