After a couple days of having to use the other toilets in the house, my dad got mine working again. The issue had happened Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, I believe, and before I left for work that day he went, but I wanted to mow the lawn today... Dad, it's okay. Do what you planned. There was a chance of rain for the next few days after that, so use the one known sunny day to do the outside chore. We have two other bathrooms. It's not like I'm having to use an outhouse or anything.
So, while I was at work the other day, dad got to work on replacing the seal, except it ended up being WAY more than that, necessitating at least one visit to Menards, I'm sure. He was complaining about the pipe, how if the pipe was straight, the toilet was not, something like that. Well, he's the last person who worked on the toilet, so that's kinda on him. I don't remember the reason he worked on the toilet, but I know he did, because it wasn't lined up properly on the tile afterward, going back a few years.
Whatever he did, the toilet feels a bit more powerful and it sounds different. Now, I will say, my toilet has been doing some weird things lately. Aside from not flushing all that well for a bit, it would sometimes make these whooshing noises after flushing, kind of loudly. Silly me, I thought nothing of that, aside from, hey, that sounds weird. And now I know I probably should have pointed that out, but it was intermittent and I couldn't reproduce it on command; it just would happen. How and why things finally flat-out failed, I don't know, but there doesn't seem to be any major repercussions downstairs, at least. A couple years back I did flood my bathroom accidentally, not long after we'd completely repainted the downstairs, and dad did have to repaint part of the kitchen ceiling. This apparently was just water along the edge of the wall and it dried so it's okay, I suppose?
