I'm a little late with this. Late in December, long covid was in the news, I think partly because articles were saying it was hitting women harder than men. I wasn't in a position to read the full articles at the time--and I'm being lazy and not searching for them now--but I do know that I stumbled onto comments from anti-vaxxers who were claiming people were getting covid from being exposed to people who'd been vaccinated. Like, they believe the vaccine causes the virus to jump from one person to another. And now you see why I couldn't take the time to see the article, because I had to leave the internet for my own sanity. These same people were claiming that the vaccines were causing long covid. Interesting, since my two bouts came prior to any vaccines being administered. I don't deal well with ignorance on a good day, but at that particular time, I was not having it.
Meanwhile, I've mentioned that tea helps me a lot but came with a side effect of desiccating my lips. Last weekend I decided to try drinking the tea through a straw, and that really seems to have made a difference--the benefits of the tea, but I get it directly into my mouth. I've also backed away from using Aquaphor and restarted with the Beekman 1802 goat's milk lip balm I'd been using. Today, my lips feel closer to normal than they have in weeks. The Aquaphor seems to cause scabbing of sorts and that's just not good for flute playing. The goat's milk lip balm and the tiny bit of Burt's Bees lip balm I had laying around--the stuff I've been using regularly for years--is just what I need, apparently. I'm really glad now to have gotten another tube of Burt's Bees for Christmas. I'm holding off on using it for now, but I'll probably crack it open soon. It's pretty wild how a seemingly minor lifestyle change can make a big difference.
