Sound the alarm clock

My alarm clock is dying.

I realized something was off last week, around Tuesday. It suddenly had gained time and was faster than usual. I purposely keep it 5 minutes fast for whatever reason. I reset it, and before I knew it, it was 5 minutes even faster again.

Yesterday, I decided to try to reset it. I unplugged it for a few hours and then, around 1 PM, I plugged it back in. It read 12:00. Okay, let's try to set it to the correct time...and I couldn't. It would only read 12:00. A few minutes later, it started to blink, as if the power had gone out. The good news is that it then allowed me to try to reset it. Great! The bad news, it would only get to about 1 or 2 for the hour digit, then revert back to 12. It let me get slightly farther for the minutes digits, but would revert back to 00. I then left it unplugged for the rest of the day. This is how I learned just how much I look at my clock, because I was looking to that area constantly, and only was greeted with darkness, not glowing red numbers.

I got an idea today. If it keeps reverting back to 12:00, let's try to set it at about noon. And, since I like it 5 minutes fast, I'll try plugging it in at 11:55. But, like yesterday, it only read 12:00 and didn't blink, so I couldn't try resetting it, and even after a minute--counted by holding my watch up to my ear to confirm the ticking seconds--the numbers never blinked. Sigh. Forget it for now; I'll go eat lunch.

When I returned, the numbers were blinking, but they were also at the approximate appropriate time. It must have started blinking after a couple minutes. Knowing that if I touched it, the numbers would be screwed up, I've just left it. My clock is now blinking like the power went off overnight. And, instead of being slow, which it was to start, it has now gained time and it claims to be after 5 PM, rather than shortly after 4:30. In watching it blink, I can see that for every two blinks, one happens faster than the other. It's not counting correctly, which is obvious since it was gaining time. I'm still leaving it for now; it was too weird to not have anything showing yesterday. But I doubt I'll be able to handle it for long.

With Christmas coming, I went up to my dad and said, I don't know if Santa still needs any gift ideas for me, since I know I got a lot at Woodfield last week, but if so, an alarm clock with red numbers would be great. Christmas is only three weeks away. Perfect timing. (*cough*)
