Humming right along
Dad got rid of the spider that had been building webs on the side of the deck, but "got rid of" appears to have meant "relocated elsewhere in the backyard." Within days the spider was back and building more webs, this time over the flower basket on the far side of the lattice. It's been kind of pretty, too, as with all the rain over the weekend, the web was covered in moisture and looked artistic.
The hummingbirds are still around for a few more weeks, and dad saw one the other day that did not get fooled. He said it was hovering over the impatiens, wanting to eat--they're known to visit all the flowers in the basket--but it saw the web and went, naw, bro. Dad said it hovered for some time, trying to decide what to do before ultimately flying away. Rats. But we'd rather the bird be safe.
