Today ended up being way more exciting than anticipated.
During our morning errand run, I remembered to bring my Woodman's gift card that YC gave me for Christmas. This led me to buy a few unusual items, but I also got what my dad called a bucket list food: A gigantic pretzel. I keep seeing the large Bavarian pretzels in the frozen section and I really wanted to try one, and there was one shaped like a Christmas wreath in the bargain bin. Sweet! Yes!
Then, on the way home, we stopped at Aldi because this week's ad had this massaging heat wrap. I moved something heavy at work yesterday--I hadn't realized how heavy it was going to be--so by the end of the workday I was like, crap, don't tell me I did something to it AGAIN. A heated massaging wrap might be just what I need. I was worried they'd be out of them, but no, there were about five on the shelf. My only concern was that the vibrating part was only for the upper back; it's my lower back that has issues, but I bought it anyway and it seems to work pretty well. It's like a warm hug. I used it soon after I got home, then took it off to have lunch, and boy could I tell a temperature difference once it was off. Also, if I flip it upside down, I can use the massaging part on my lower back. Mom immediately was like, want! So I let her borrow it for a bit and she approved, too. She said I could wrap her in it every day when I leave for work. Uh, no. The other item they had that I considered was the little sewing machine that was under $20. They had plenty, and I'm not sure how much use I'd get out of it, so I tabled that for at least a week. Still, it might be nice for smaller projects, but then I went, we might not be wearing masks much longer...hmm. It's not something I need desperately at the moment so I passed. Meanwhile, I may in fact be wearing the wrap as I type.
Later, I got a text from Laura. She'd let me know a couple days ago that my cookie order had come in and she'd look to arrange delivery soon. I probably should have said at that time, let's talk about Saturday, but I ended up working on the Fancy Band program for a bit after lunch. There's always typos. Like, sometimes major ones. I did check with Dr. K the other day to see if he wanted me to look through it and he did, so that was an hour or two of my afternoon, reading through it and double-checking a few things. Some of it he's copied and pasted from other sources, but that doesn't mean those sources are correct or well-written. I mean, changing it is up to his discretion, but when he spells a composer's name wrong, that might be worth changing. Anyway, I finished that up and posted my earlier entry, and then my phone went off--could Laura deliver the cookies today? After some household discussion, yes, might as well get 'em now. And then there was a minor flurry of activity to freshen up the house a bit, and since we were already planning on eating the pretzel for dinner, I popped that in the oven.
Mom was pretty sure our little Girl Scout would help deliver the cookies, and sure enough, she insisted on carrying the box of boxes--we ordered 10 overall, heh. One of each of the nine available, plus an extra box of Thin Mints as a gift. Munchkin was super excited; not only did she get to see me, but she got to come to my house and meet my mom. Like, Laura herself hasn't been here in ages. It was a big deal. Munchkin had a bit of pretzel (Laura declined), and we offered her something to drink. Mom said that we had water and ginger ale and cherry juice, and I went, it's tart cherry; I don't think she'd like that. Naturally, that's exactly what she chose...and after the first sip, likely regretted it, but she kept drinking it! This is what makes kids hilarious, that they won't like something but they'll keep consuming it so long as it's not heinously gross. I finally took the mug away and mom got her water. I think they were here for about 20 minutes; they had another stop to make. Laura got to see the new table and sectional sofa in person, very exciting, and no, Munchkin, you are not going upstairs thanks to the construction zone (and also it's super messy). Laura is dealing with her own household changes so she understood.
It was super nice to see them and to have a special delivery; now to get my mom to stop eating them. I think she opened six of the nine boxes we kept. Like, mom, you're going to make yourself sick. I had a few, sure, but I stopped at maybe four total. Too much sugar does not suit me. Meanwhile, mom finished off nearly a full sleeve of Do-Si-Dos by herself. Mom. Stop. Save me at least one. Tomorrow is another day.
