Puzzled no more

This has been a rough week for me mentally. After the ups and downs of Tuesday, I didn't sleep well that night. Last night, I stayed up too late because my evening scheduling is off and I wanted to be sure I got certain things done before I went to bed. Bad choice. Oh well.

Today, my brain is foggy enough that I even said something at work. Something came up that needed to be taken care of relatively quickly, yet it was the sort of thing you needed to pause and think about, and I was of no use for the thinking part. At least I had another, relatively mindless task I could do, and the manager took over what needed to happen with the situation, so that was good.

Still, once I got home, I needed to not brain tonight. There would be no newspaper reading. Instead, I finished the puzzle. I mean, dad had a big hand in it, though he hadn't really touched it during the day. After dinner, though, I went into the room, and let's say 85-90% of the puzzle was done to that point. I started finding a bunch of the middle pieces that were left to do, and after a bit dad wandered over, and by then we pretty much just had the border and the wording in the top center of the puzzle to do (it said Television Something-or-Other--Television Families, maybe?). We were on opposite sides of the table and he kept tossing me the edge pieces near where I was sitting. He got up to go to the bathroom and was gone long enough that just when he came out, I was on the final piece of the puzzle. He watched me put it together.

I'm really impressed that we were able to complete a 1,000 piece puzzle in four days. It was fun. I need a break, though; it's addicting. But I do have a puzzle of New York that Laura gave me as a gift a while back. It's a map, so it's easy and hard at the same time; all the pieces look alike, but the streets tend to be labeled, so you can eventually find where things go. I have done it before and managed to finish it, so I think we can handle it.

Oh! I kept looking for a specific piece to finish the main part of the puzzle. Some of the drawings were monochrome, say in black, red, or blue. I kept looking for "blue people" and could not find the corresponding piece. Dad then wondered if the puzzle had been built over the piece we needed. You clodhopper. Did you honestly put the puzzle over other pieces? Sure enough, he did--he ran his hand over the puzzle in a particular area, felt something odd, undid a few pieces, and found the one I needed. Wow. Like, dad, don't do that.
