Thanks, but no giving

We talked to grandma last Sunday (and, well, today too :P ), and mom brought up Thanksgiving. She wondered what grandma wanted to do. Mom was relieved to hear that grandma is okay with not coming over. The experts have suggested quarantining for 14 days prior to having a holiday meal, and considering I'm working, that's not feasible. However, it sounds like we'll still make food, and when mom said we could bring leftovers to grandma, she really liked that idea. She likes my father's cooking and I'm sure she'd be happy to eat something homemade that she didn't have to make herself.

The other thing she brought up last week was her TV. The TV in her bedroom hasn't worked in quite a while. I don't even know how long at this point, but months, likely. Maybe pre-pandemic. She mentioned last week that she was considering getting herself a new one, and they generally have good deals around Black Friday, don't they? We had to tell her, Black Friday's not really a thing this year, at least not like it's been in the past...and are you asking Santa for a new TV for Christmas? Oh, no, she said, laughing; she was fully prepared to buy one for herself. She was a little sad because what she has must be on the small side, and she didn't think they made TVs that small any longer. We had her measure it--and I told her, you measure the screen on the diagonal to get the size; it's not across--and I thought she'd said it was 32".

Mom must've brought it up to dad during the week, and dad mentioned, you know, we have a TV we're not using in the basement. I think it was mom's, maybe? Oh, or it was the old one we'd had in the prior version of the entertainment center, the one I Wii'd with. When we spoke with grandma today, mom mentioned that it had been used in 2020 so we knew it worked this year. Dad measured it and it's 32". However, when mom went over the various dimensions, to make sure it'll fit where grandma currently has her TV, grandma said her current TV is only 26". Hmm. She said it sits on this 8' long shelf, and it's propped up on a couple things since the shelf is only a couple feet high, and she liked to watch it from her bed and it needed to be a certain height. Mom let her know how wide the base of the TV is, too, which seemed to confuse grandma--does it need to be on the base? Uh, yeah; otherwise it won't stand. But the base is only 8" deep. Considering the shelf is a foot and a half deep, it'll be fine. I don't know that we'd do this separately from the food, but hey, grandma's getting a free TV. I don't think mom really wants to go up into grandma's place, lest we bring germs, but I think it would be wise to have dad install it. What, we wear masks, we crack the door open, we don't stay too long...hmm... I guess we'll see what the climate is come Thanksgiving. Mom just didn't think it was wise for her to come by us where we'd be eating with masks off in close proximity. If we kept our masks on and kept our distance... Or I'll just stay in the car. Might be safest.
