Not-quite-happy St. Patrick's Day

Mar 17, 2020 21:30

I wore my new-from-Christmas dark green sweater today, plus my clover socks and a ring with a green gemstone. I'd already painted my toenails over the weekend; they're green and sparkly. I decided to do my hair, since curls are a staple of Irish dancers.
(One of my grade school classmates was a Trinity Irish Dancer. I did a little Googling and even found an article where she's featured. Back 30 years ago, you knew not to expect Deirdre to be in school this time of year because she'd be performing on the Tonight Show or Regis and Kathie Lee, no joke.)

My mom likes corned beef; I'm not a huge fan, and dad didn't want to make it, so he joked that he'd go to Arby's to pick up a couple sandwiches. When I learned I'd be home this evening, I told dad to do what he'd originally planned and not to worry about me for dinner. When I got home, he told me they'd decided to get McAlister's Deli, and to look at the menu online to see if I wanted anything. Well, Lent makes going to a sandwich shop hard for me (no bread), and all the salads I'd want to eat had cheese--I think it was all the salads period--and it's easier for me to just not eat rather than try to get something special made. They had sides, too, but I was leery of those. Take the fresh fruit--it's whatever's seasonally available. I think I'm developing an allergy to fresh pineapple, so I didn't want to deal with that. Yeah...I'll have leftovers and it'll be fine.

The kicker: Dad went to order the food, and it turns out there's no longer a McAlister's Deli up in Geneva Commons; it must have closed. The closest one was in like Algonquin. ...Okay, so much for that; Arby's it is! And this was conveniently after he and mom had a text conversation about what to order. Time for Plan B.

...And then this happened.
Dad gets to the drive-thru and asks, can you tell me if you have corned beef sandwiches?
The voice answers, you want Arby's. This is Taco Bell.
...They're right next to each other and he drove to the wrong one. Oops.
(...Taco Bell didn't answer the question, though. This could be a new flavor sensation for them. You never know.)
