Sunday afternoon, time for our weekly grandma phone call.
*phone rings, she picks up*
Grandma: Oh, your timing is excellent!
Me: Well, I usually call you at one o'clock.
Grandma: No, you don't understand--I was talking with [uncle's girlfriend].
Me: Oh!
Grandma: Yes, and the call waiting was ringing, so I had to tell her I had to go because the phone was ringing! So thank you!
Me: You're welcome!
Realize the girlfriend just sort of meanders through conversations, not necessarily discussing anything of importance, and talks in circles. Topics of conversation are controversial or hooey. Grandma often mentions having to take a blood pressure pill once she's off the phone with her, and at times she's flat-out called us to help calm her down. So...perfect. Happy to help, grandma, though I did wonder about this...
Me: Why not just tell her what you tell us--you have to go to the bathroom. (She does that often, will say, "Gotta go!" and then *click*.)
Grandma: But I'm an honest person! If I say that I really do have to go!
Ha-ha, okay. (No, really, I believe her--she has some issues, which is why we never question the circumstances and we don't keep her...but it's not an uncommon way for her to end a phone conversation.)
Her week was much quieter than last week; no getting lost this time around. We talked a bit about the wedding, which is now three weeks away. It sounds like someone, possibly mom and grandma, will check into the hotel between the ceremony and the reception, since it'll sort of be on the way. There's no point in doing it beforehand, plus check-in isn't until 4 PM anyway. Mom will ride with grandma after the ceremony. I'll have to make sure I get everyone written directions; she can't rely on OnStar. Plus mom should have an idea of where she's going, too. At least mom will have her phone, so she should have access to maps, or she can call or text me or dad if absolutely necessary. It'll be an adventure, plus the hotel has a pool. Whee!
I also got to share my concert story with the grapes and the bathroom and all that. It's the sort of mishap that happens in our family and she got a kick out of it, as I suspected.
