God bless...the mall?

If I've not mentioned it, the security guards at the mall have started announcing that the mall is open. I don't know why. They just do. Those of us who open have gotten used to that...but today, after the announcement, there was a slight pause...and then came a rousing rendition of "God Bless America." Holy crap, what is that? Where is it coming from? And why? Well, the "why" came pretty quickly when I realized it was Veteran's Day (and it's the 14th anniversary of us moving, hurrah). And not too long after that, I realized that the music was coming over the P.A., as in from the guards' office. As in, it's one of the security guards singing into the P.A. system. Luckily he had a very decent voice and sounded good...but it was still weird, nonetheless. Chalk it up to another weird happening in my little mall.

K is going back on medical leave. I think she'll be out four to five weeks this time. We're in desperate need of bodily help. It's one thing to lose someone when it's slow, but it's another when it's the holidays and we're about to go to increased store hours. However, whether good or bad, a guy who worked for us last year stopped in today and asked for work. R gave it to him. This was a guy that, had he come in over the summer, we would have said, uh, no. He wasn't a bad guy, but he was ALWAYS late (which sucked because he was supposed to open the kiosk, but when he didn't show up that meant *I* had to run down there), and he went kind of AWOL after his vacation last year. But he knows the job; it would just be a matter of refreshing himself with the position. So...he's back. And we're getting someone else back who worked here before; now we just need someone to basically be a temp keyholder. I wouldn't trust this guy, but maybe the girl? We'll have to see, but R, P, and I are not exactly looking forward to the holidays this year.
