I never went into Monday at work, but my week did not start off that well. Two people were off on Monday that would have had a key to the dock door; the third, my boss, ran late. I checked said dock door, saw it was locked, and went around to the front. I was most of the way there when I realized one of my Christmas tree earrings was missing, so I turned around and went back, retracing my steps, finally discovering it was in my car. Okay, well, by this point I know I'm going to be late. But, it's Christmas Eve, shouldn't be a big deal. By the time I trudge around to the front--again--there is a car sitting in a spot that's between us and the business next door, so it was hard to tell why he was there. I get the door open, run back to turn off the alarm, and at some point chuck my bag, coat, and Santa hat on the floor next to my workstation so I can open for business. I clocked in at 9:03.
Pretty much as soon as I turned on the lights and flipped the sign to open, in walks the guy. Long story short, he was unhappy with a service we were attempting to provide for him but didn't quite do, due to a few circumstances. Only four of us worked on Monday; three of us were involved in this situation (the fourth was in the other building and wandered up after the guy had left). This person was...unpleasant, to say the least, and set off a chain of reactions that basically took up half of our day. Considering we were only open for three hours, this was way too much energy spent on one person. The good news is that the rest of the time was fine, and we were in better moods when we left, but still. It's Christmas Eve. Like...I hadn't even had a chance to put on my Santa hat. My earrings had gone in my bag while I was still outside so I hadn't put them back on, either. I didn't even move my stuff to the office area until 9:30.
My one coworker didn't entirely help matters by calling out, Merry Christmas! to the guy when he finally walked out the door. The guy had been rude and snarky, and my coworker had a pinch of sarcasm in his voice as he said that. Both my boss and I were like, really, you shouldn't have done that, but sometimes snark begets snark. On the whole, though, even if that situation means no more business with this guy, I don't think we're losing out. Some people are better off going elsewhere.
