Chopping block

I cut my hair this morning. I'd always sort of planned to do that, given that I had the house to myself this weekend; while I cut it back in March on my vacation, and I generally only cut my hair twice a year, I had some ends that should have come off back then and didn't. The stuff along my crown, because oftentimes it gets pinned or pulled back, gets damaged pretty easily. But I don't often want it short, or shorter, because then there's less I can do with it. But, when it resembles straw, it has to go.

Not gonna lie, given my headspace these past few days, cutting my hair was also a bit cathartic. Time to start fresh. I actually cut it a few times, in two different sessions, trying to get rid of the bad stuff. First I piled it into a ponytail atop my head to cut off the end and get rid of the long straw-like bits that frame my face. I thought I would be done after that, but as my hair dried and I could see other straw-like bits, I knew I had to go back and do more, so first came a pony in the middle of my head, then a pony at the nape of my neck, then came a frantic search for these mirrors my mom gave me for Christmas. I knew I needed to straighten things out in the back, but alas I have yet to grow a third hand to physically hold a mirror for me while I use the other two hands to hold the hair and cut it. These gift mirrors have an attached stand that's bendable, so you can put it on your counter as a make-up mirror, or hang it from somewhere, which was what I'd wanted to do. My shower curtain is directly across from my big bathroom mirror and I could have hung the little one on the rod so I could look into that one to see my reflection in the big mirror and therefore tell where I needed to cut my hair. Alas, despite tearing apart my cabinets, I couldn't find it. I could've sworn I put the mirrors in there. Very frustrating. Oh well. It got done, and I think it looks okay. And, even if it doesn't…I kinda don't care. This is why God invented ponytail holders.
