Muscle and pestle

May 30, 2015 19:54

I've spent a large portion of the day attempting to grind poppyseeds in a mortar and pestle. It only took hours, but I've done half the bag! Hooray!

...Guess my thought of doing round two of poppyseed bread tomorrow will be a pipe dream. Well, we'll see.

On the plus side, I expect to look like Popeye after this weekend. Hel-lo, arm muscles.

But only if you can get the can to open by squeezing it.

Does pulling the pop-top off count?

No, I was thinking squeezing it in the middle to make the top pop off, just like Popeye did in the cartoons. Mind you, I've tried squeezing an empty can, and I can't get it to bend. Which might indicate that Popeye has some degree of superstrength even before gulping down a can of spinach.

On a slightly different matter, you realize that Popeye would probably have a hard time flying today. Can you see him going through the security checkpoint at the airport, be it ORD, SDF, or whatever airport you choose? (Sir, why do you have that can of spinach inside your shirt?"

I'm thinking you have to buy cheaper canned goods. ;)

As for Popeye flying, I'm imagining him flinging the airplane in the air with one hand, but holding it in the other and hopping aboard once he's set it flying. I'm not entirely sure how that would work, but it's a cartoon; he'll manage.

And, well, they sell bagged spinach now.

True. Popeye would probably find the bagged spinach tastier than the frozen or canned varieties.

As for your suggestion on how he might fly, it sounds a lot like Thor swinging his hammer, letting it go, and hanging on by the wrist loop.
