The title specifically refers to Friday, but it applies to today as well.
We're in the middle of a busy season at work. We get basically two a year; this one is the lesser of the two, but believe me, it's still plenty busy. I haven't been able to get much done for a week and a half. Thankfully it's much shorter than the other busy time of year, in the fall, but I still feel like I'm simply treading water.
Friday was stressful; stuff happened that was beyond my control, yet my boss was still upset with me for a time. Look, I can only do so much with what's there, basically, and if something's not there that I need, well, then something's not going to happen. End of story. Another coworker had gone to the bakery down the block and gotten good doughnuts--usually they come from a chain store--and the day was so aggravating that I ended up having two of them. Like, I have been relatively good and only having one piece of something, and if it's not something I really like I've been skipping it altogether, but that day...screw it. I'm having a second doughnut. And it was good.
Today, getting to the tail end of the busy season (maybe another day or two and it should taper off), there were these flashes of chaos. Like, it would be quiet enough for me to focus on a new, particular project, and then all of a sudden there'd be four people wanting my attention. Then nothing for a while. Then chaos again. Rinse and repeat. It gets old, especially when you're trying to get things done and there are just constant interruptions, and things that weren't done properly, which messes up the system you have going, which then leads to more chaos, which is exactly what you need when everything's upended in the first place. I'm supposed to be doing routine calls and emails about certain things as well, and those have completely gone by the wayside. It's not simply that I can't get to them, but the people who give me the information to call about aren't passing that along. Although, okay, the last list I got is 10 days old and I still have three people to contact on it. So much for doing things in a timely fashion. Oh well. In a day or two, things should be calming down to near-normal levels, and then next week we should be back to status quo, but in the meantime the doughnuts should be kept away from me because the extra sugar doesn't help. Even if they're delicious.
