It's only quarter after twelve and I'm already back. Well, we have plans for the afternoon, and I really only like going for the pet parade, which starts at 10, so I suppose it makes sense. Mom originally had plans for about 12:30/1 PM, so we initially thought we'd go separately anyway, and then something else popped up. She dithered up until about 10:30 as to whether she'd still go to that, so we took separate cars, and then she decided against it. That nooner thing, it's at least an hour away from our house, which is another hour from where we're going later--and in a different direction--so that's why she'd canceled her original plans. It was a Red Hat deal, and she's bummed, but what can you do.
This didn't stop us from having a good time at the fest. We met up around 9:15 and walked over to the Farmers Market, which is now on this pedestrian-friendly street across the river from its longtime home. Mom proceeded to eat her way through, getting a slice of quiche with fruit, and then a savory crepe. We split them, but neither of us needed either. I, on the other hand, got a pint of apricots and probably the same amount of cherries--I could see the smaller container but not the size. Doesn't matter. Still yummy and more budget-friendly. We then walked over to the main part of the festival to await the pet parade, and mom managed to find the one food booth open over there...and bought a scone. Seriously. You *just* ate breakfast; why do you need more?
The pet parade started late, and then they ended up doing the parade part first, like they did when I took Kirby. I liked it when they did it second because then it gave the judges time to count scores without really making the audience wait. Anyway, there were some great animals there. I'd thought about bringing Kirby this year--as in, if she made it to 25, maybe I'd bring her again--but she would not have been that unusual. Heck, there was a beautiful macaw, only 20 years old, and he wasn't the most unusual animal there, though he did win best trick. Double heck--there were *two* snakes and they didn't win most unusual. That went to the bearded dragon, owned by the same kid who had the larger of the two snakes. Otherwise it was all dogs, and not even a whole lot of costumed ones, but some were cute. The winner of best costume was a little wiener dog dressed as a hot dog. I personally liked the bride. The dog I thought might win best trick was the one who jumped through a hoop; that one ended up winning highest jump. Well, at least it won something. I think I was more amused by the dog antics before the event started. One, who looked corgi-ish, found its gift bag on the ground and stuck its head inside to see what treats were there. That was amusing. And then there was a large dog, which reminded me of a brown Weimaraner, who went under a table to greet a smaller dog; seriously, it was in downward facing dog. Funny.
