This was the beginning of my weird Thursday. I'm not fancy enough to have a work-based email, so if I need to send something to a coworker, I have to use my own. No biggie. Plus, it allows me to check one of my email accounts while I'm working--without guilt--so bonus. And, first thing yesterday, I get a letter from the flute choir leader. One of our members, who I knew was going in for a medical procedure, has ended up needing surgery and will be out for a good two months. Holy cow. So, in light of her being gone, we'll need to shuffle parts; would I mind playing a different part on one of the flute choir songs? Not a problem. Anything I can do to help.
Later in the day, I get a call from the director of the band the flute choir's related to. Did I hear about so-and-so? Yes, I did; I hope she'll be okay. He then reminded me that, with her absence, there would be an opening in the band; would I like to take it? Um, okay, sure. So now I'm a temporary member of a concert band. Rehearsals are Monday nights. I have a month to learn the music. I talked to him again today and learned what the pieces are; the ones that are strictly the band, I've never heard of, but the ones being played with a local junior high's band, I've done those at camp. Well, good, glad I can handle the easy stuff. :) So...yeah. Well, whatever keeps me off the streets, right?
