Is there anything different they do? Or are you in one of those strawberry growing place... Things. Yes.

I should do a strawberry shortcake recipe....

Lol. Arkansas. Strawberries abound.

Two homemade flaky biscuits, home made whipping creme sweetened perfectly, and fresh sliced strawberries with a touch of lemon juice and sugar.

....mmmmm....

You know? That's the first time I've heard of strawberry shortcake mentioned in anything else besides a strawberry reduction of some kind, or the lazy as hell strawberry jam method. I definitely think I'm a fan of your version.

One thing I'm noticing about here, is that the quality of our regional food (obviously, since it's seafood) varies DRASTICALLY from place to place. Is it like that for the shortcakes out there?

oh most definitely. THe strawberry shortcake outside of the state is disgusting. Sometimes you can put angel food cake or poundcake underneath instead of a biscuit if you want more sweet, but usually the sugared strawberries (Some people crush them or puree them, but my gramma always sliced them and sugared them, then served them in their own juices with a little lemon squeezed in for tartness and preservative) and home made whipped cream are enough for sweet.

I agree. I've never been a fan of strawberry shortcake because it's often like eating a giant ball of sugar, and despite what it might seem from my desserts (I'm a master of cooking things that I don't have a taste for) I can't really stand sweet food. I love the first 3 bites, then I have to throw it out of a window and toss a chair after it. I find the more simple cake and the non-syrup strawberries infinitely more appealing. I'd imagine the whipped cream alone is enough to provide the extra sweet, and I'd guess even that wouldn't need much.

Hell, the only thing I'd do to touch that is to whip a bit of melted white chocolate into the whipped cream, and garnish the whole thing with a tiny bit of shaved dark chocolate, since neither will f with the sweetness of the thing at all.

Do you actually have a recipe for this stuff? If so, I'd love it.

I dont. Its kind of one of those passed down from generation things. Just find yourself a great flaky biscuit mix, get a bushel of strawberries, clean and slice them, add about a cup of sugar to a pound--less may work for you since you dont like sweet--and some lemon juice to taste. Both help the strawberries release their juices. They end up marinating in them. Then whip up your whipped cream to taste, and throw em all together.
^ that there is a real southern recipe for you ^_^ No real measuring. Do what tastes good, and throw out what dont.

LOL seems fair enough. And you put these on, basically, home made biscuts engineered to flake apart if you look at them wrong?

lol it's cool. Biscuts are great. I do that burbon sausage gravy over biscuts, I was actually looking for more to make with them.

Neat, I have ammunition now. superflaky buttermilk biscuts, home made whipped cream, sliced strawberries in lemon juice simple syrup. Thanks! :)

I'm going to work on this recipe in the next day or 2, see what I can see about making it. Strawberries are dripping from the sky out here right now, it'd be a sin not to make this.

Chocolate gravy. it's less sweet and rich than you think. It's actually more mellow if made right. And sooo good. Mmmnnnnn...Goddamn. I need a towel for my drooling.
