Good News
My research proposal got accepted with the English Department. I am now going to write a huge essay on the history of Thai poetry and literature as well as the development of contemporary poetry in the context of the 21 century in Thailand.
I also have to translation 15 to 20 poems (which I am getting from authors I have contacted while I have been here) and I am going to write After poetry for each one. Thai poetry is hard to translate and keep the same meaning, so I am going to do academic translations and write my own for each one to try and capture the spirit of Thai poetry. I am so excited.
Paulette said if this project is done well I could get honors, as well as placement at a good Graduate school. There is a lot of pressure on me now to do well, so I hope I can rock it. Watch out Rob, I might be calling you for help here pretty soon.
Also, Chris approved my Senior Paper Topic: The Hindu Influence present in Thai Theravada Buddhism as it is expressed within the context of Cultural Norms: History, mythology, and Religious Practices. Doesn't that sound fancy?
