*laughs maniacally*
Okay, there are two things that I have concluded.
1) Until now, I have been a dweeb, stressing out about a perceived situation that did not really exist.
2) I do not need to write this essay.
I thought that I needed to have 65% in ALL of my English courses to progress into third year, and, in addition, needed to have an average of 70% across three English credits.
It turns out that in order to take 300 level courses, I have to have 65% in THREE English credits, with an average of 70% across them.
I was semi-freaking out because I'm currently only getting 63% in Victorian Lit, and was doubtful I would be able to bring that up by the end of the year.
BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER!!!
You know why? Because I'm taking 3.5 English credits this year, in addition to the 1.0 I took last year! So, quite frankly, ladies and gentlemen, I am laughing now. I'm very glad I figured this out. This means I just have to get at least 65% (and an average of 70%) across 2.0 credits this year, because last year I got 75% in ENGL110.
Just to make this a little clearer, I'll make a list.
Final Grades
ENGL110 - 1.0 credits - 75%
ENGL207 - 0.5 credits - 70%
Current Status
ENGL226 - 1.0 credits - 75%
ENGL211 - 1.0 credits - 77%
ENGL255 - 1.0 credits - 63%
So can we see why I am no longer worried? SWEET. Plus, if worse comes to worst and I totally start bombing either Shakespeare (226) or Middle English (211), I can always take Science Fiction and Fantasy (205) over the summer by correspondence, and use it along with Children's Lit (207) to cover the discrepancy. But at the moment I'm looking at an average of 72% across 4.5 English credits. Go me.
And here I thought I was vaguely insane for taking so many English courses this year (3.5) when I really only needed to take 2. Turns out it was just foresight on my part ;)
In summary, this means I can get as low as 51% in Vic Lit and still both pass it and continue into the 300 level classes in my program next year. Thank you, and good night.
