Generally speaking, you always want to wear a wetsuit in So Cal beaches. In the summer, you can just wear the shorter cropped one, but, since you have to go out into deeper water to catch the waves without running into people, it can get REALLY cold, even in the summer. But, that's just what I've been told by surfer peoples. I'm sure it's conceivable that people can surf minus the wetsuits. =D
