[Posted before Lupin's death; his replies will come after]

[Infirmary doctors only filter.]I imagine you all know, to some extent, why I am bringing discussion to the table. I discussed it openly enough. Dr Lewis expressed concerns, and I don't think they should ever be ignored or go undiscussed ( Read more... )

[Remus blinked quickly, groaning loudly when he started to become aware of the fact that he wasn't in his room and that the light hurt his eyes. Each movement sent pain shooting through his neck and his first conscious thing was a murmured.] Blimey.

[Caesares didn't even flinch, even if he felt like jumping out of his skin for a second. He offered Remus a glass of water,] How are you feeling?

[REmus blinked and he took the offered water, swallowing it with a grimace.]

Like I've fallen off a broom and hit the qudditch pitch. I'm in the infirmary?

[Fallen off a broom? The most this gets is a slight quizzical raise of the eyebrow.]

Yes. Are you aware of what happened to you?

[Remus just raises a brow of his own in response to healer's eyebrow raise and let's it go. He'll explain to the muggle another time.]

I was in the stairwell and someone attacked me and broke my neck, I expect.

[He reached up and touched it.]

I assume it was someone, because I was standing up and hadn't fallen.

They didn't bite you?

[Well, that was news. Caesares frowned, as it was a little irrelevant.]

I'll leave that to the men investigating it - Constable Crabtree seems to have taken responsibility.

Is there anyone I should, and can, inform about this?

[He then started working on getting some painkillers sorted.] How is the pain?

I expect whoever it was wished to incapacitate me, I didn't see them coming.

[Remus reached up and touched his neck.]

Mark. I'll tell Sirius myself.

[The question about pain made him frown.]

I've a high tolerance for pain, Doctor.

Hm. I suspect they're the sort of details the wardens investigating will need to know.

[Caesares nodded,] I've already informed him as much as I can. I'll make sure to make it clear to him and get him here, if you wish.

[Little does he know at this moment...]

As for high tolerance, that doesn't mean you don't suffer it, and if you are, I'd like to help.

It's very odd. [He paused.] Does this sort of thing happen often do you know?

Yes, I think seeing him would be a good thing. How did he seem when you told him.

[Remus paused.] I don't suppose you have any healing potions? Do they help?

Murder? Seemingly a lot. You're the first, ah, personal patient of mine for this.

[Meaning he'd gone to pick up the body, and had to deal with that. Hence why he'd been exceedingly cautious, as he wasn't sure what he could say and to whom.]

Unfortunately, he seemed... angry I couldn't tell him more. I tried to calm him down. I'll go back and talk to him once I've treated you.

[Pause]

I don't, personally, know how to prescribe or deal with healing potions. I'm unaccustomed to them, but I can find someone here who is, if that's what you prefer. I can give you painkillers and something to help you sleep until then.

[Remus leaned back against the pillow for a moment, and he closed his eyes, just letting them be shut for a moment.]

Sorry about that. I can't imagine it was easy.

I'll send him a message immediately. I expect he'll deal with it better hearing it from me.

I'll take the painkillers with gratitude, Doctor. And then I'll speak to Severus, he's the potions master after all.

You should by no means apologise for your own death, Mr Lupin.

[He nodded,]

Alright, but make sure he makes explicit notes on what he's given you and any effects it might have. I'd hate to make things worse.

[He paused slightly.]

I imagine Constable Crabtree, Mr Nygma or Mr Grayson might want to talk to you. What should I tell them if they do?

[Remus frowned, and then he leaned in slightly, his voice low.]

You should known then, Doctor, that I am coming off the effects of a potion called 'Wolfsbane.' I take it to make certain that I do not turn into a rampaging monster when I shift into werewolf form. When I take it, my mind remains my own just in the wolf's body. I was recovering from that when I was attacked.

And yes, I'll speak to them as soon as they require it.

[He couldn't quite help it. His eyes went wide in surprise, but he nodded. Werewolves. Well... it made as much sense as vampires.]

Does it have any other effects? Does it make you drowsy, or kill pain along with... the more useful effects?

[This boat was still full of surprises.]

No. When one deals in magical means of healing there aren't side effects save for if you use them extensively and over the long term. The potion simply does what it's meant to do. For example, a pain relieving potion would do nothing but remove pain minus the side effects of muggle opiates, a dreamless sleep potion removes nightmares but doesn't cause any effects other than a restful night's sleep, a pepper up potion removes a cold but doesn't have the side effects of muggle palliatives.

Hm. [Well, that was why they called it magic, he supposed. Although the 'muggle' thing was a bit strange, but he got it's meaning quickly enough, so went along with it.]

I'll make a note of it. Normal drugs won't affect the potions adversely?
