I thought I should update to let all of you know that no, I'm NOT actually dead SUCH A SHAME YESS HAHA). I'm on vacation here in Washington D.C., and, I repeat, OOF. The city (or THE DISTRICT, as the locals insist on calling it) is nice, the architecture is interesting, and the sights are great. The memorials are all much more impressive than I expected, and it's interesting to be in the seat of power in the free world.
That said, it's hot, humid, the traffic is nightmarish, and everyone has sticks shoved so far up their asses that it'll take the jaws of life to remove them all. I always wondered why visitors could spend hours watching morons throw fish at the Pike Place Market back home, but after the stiffling monotony of D.C., I understand why everyone is so rivetted by our "zany" and "upbeat" city (terms the local guidebooks include at an alarming rate). Dupont Circle, the HIP AND TRENDY district is a bunch of teahouses full of stuffy rich people, and I swear to God that not but 5 minutes ago the news had a section about how a house was "Not being renovated; a real eyesore!" I almost burst into laughter when a man interviewed went off about how IT'S SO DISCONCERTING TO TURN THE CORNER AND SEE IT THERE.
So, in a nutshell: History good, people bad. I'll be home Saturday.
