Usually my mom's sharp hearing serves as a disadvantage for me, but today was different. It's 3:09 in the morning and i'm in deep sleep when suddenly my mom bursts into my room and says, "Junior, wake up right now and get out of bed. There's a fire!" I forgot what she said in about 30 seconds and went back to bed. Then, my dad stops by and says, "are you coming?" I didn't really know what was going on so i sheepishly replied, "I don't think so. I think i'll stay right here." However, i heard my mom panicking and waking up my little brother so i figured something serious was going on. We rush down the stairs and open the front door and are greeted by the loud sirens of two firetrucks. It seemed incredibly warm so i turned to my left and there it was...our neighbor's house was on fire. People are gathered outside of their houses in their jammies and that's when i realized that part of our house was on fire. Luckily, it was just a small portion of the garage door. The firefighters were right there with their axes and fire hose getting ready to go in. Now, i have always had respect for firefighters, but not enough. The only time i see them is when they are rushing off somewhere or sweeping up the fire station. I always considered it like any other profession. Today i have reason to call firefighters my heros. Seeing them put on their gas masks and run in there with no concern for their lives made me feel guilty for disregarding them in the past.Apparently, our neighbor's think that it might have been us that started the fire, but that is highly unlikely. I think that there was something flammable in their garbage bin and it caught on fire because the bottom of it is all burned but the top is fine. That was amazingly close. I actually got sprayed with some of the water because the firefighter was using the hose from the inside and it all came out the roof.I'm not going to cry firefighter brutality on this one. It wasn't like it was in the 60s when brothaz were being hosed down. Yeah, i remember.
