Ah yes, the C64. I never had one, I was a Sinclair and latterly a BBC-B man.

Then, of course, I graduated to PCs. How I remember the amusement I used to get from taunting the communist amoeba (Commodore Amiga) owners...

Yes. I can see how the moral superiority gained from owning a breezeblock with no entertainment potential must have gladdened your soul on a daily basis...

Well obviously I was wrong (but then I was only 14). :-)

It took me a while to find the path to true enlightenment... :-)

I wonder sometimes if half the people on my Friends List are too young to remember what it was like to own a primitive computer with crappy graphics and still be completely immersed in the games. :-)

Added to that was the distinct inconvenience of no-one having invented the internet yet. These were the days when you still had to buy *magazines* for news about your favourite TV shows. I used to pore over Doctor Who Magazine and Starburst / TV Zone every month.

Ah the Atari ST! One of my friends owned that, and another had an Amiga. We graduated straight from a C64 to, er, nothing. After that we had an Amstrad PCW which couldn't play games at all, then a PC.

That site is great, thanks. Just looking at the cases brings it all flooding back. Originally several of my friends owned a ZX Spectrum, one had a Dragon 32, and one had a Lynx. So there was very little uniformity!

Well the C64 had a version of BASIC, although it lacked many features of normal BASIC unless you bought the "Simon's BASIC" cartridge (which I did).

I used to program an Atari 800, and still play Star Raiders on my PC in an emulator. Also, the Atari 800 version of Donkey Kong is far superior to any given Nintendo version since it includes the custard pie factory levels and alternate jumping-hourglass levels.

Wanky? Moi?

Wanky? Moi?

I think you'll find that Wanky Kong would have been an entirely different game.

You may enjoy this: I was scratting around nostalgically looking for photos from this era and found a picture of me with a Doctor Who Magazine from 1984. Scary. In multiple ways.
