My Wife and I Looking Shattered Today

No, not a story about a night of passion (we're married, remember?)...

Picture the scene...

It's around midnight last night.  I've got over my terminal depression at Celtic being dumped out of Europe by AC Milan and I'm heading to bed.  As I get to the landing I hear snuffling from my daughter's room.  Poor wee soul - she's got a really bad cold at the moment and it's keeping her awake.  I listen for a few moments longer.

The snuffling becomes pathetic, sleepy little cries.

I *WANT* to go in and pick her up and give her a cuddle BUT I know that she'll go back to sleep in a moment.  Plus, I know that if I get her up she'll probably stay awake for a good while (and will probably want to see mummy and I've had it hissed at me before "LEAVE HER SHE'S OK").

More wee cries.

I am strong.  I can resist.  In fact, I'm going to the bathroom to get ready.

I open the bathroom door.

It squeaks.

Slight pause in the sleepy little cries.  A sad little sleepy voice says "Daddy?"

What are you meant to do, eh?

kirsty
