"I am human, nothing human is alien to me."
I have been extremely fortunate to hear Maya Angelou speak in person three times in my life. In all her teachable moments, she introduces a variation of the above quote. Her translation is "I am a human being, nothing human can be alien to me" and I have taken some license with it to become the acronym for my user name.
The quote is attributed to Terence and she uses it as a launching point to encourage her audience to realize that they are capable of anything that is experienced by a human. This ranges from creating a symphony like Beethoven to committing horrible acts on others. In each case, these things were accomplished by another human so each of us is capable of greatness and must also deliberately choose to control our baser urges.
Basically, nothing in life is "inhuman" and we have the choice to do whatever we want and each of us is capable of the full range of the human condition.
