Phoenix Gathering Pt. 1

Jul 29, 2008 15:32

Things had been going rather quiet, with the exception of the Carthians rallying against each other and everyone else. Frankly I'm not to surprised. They seem to do it every gathering. At least at this gathering I have Brogan to entertain me, so i won't be wandering hidden and alone like normal. We sat at a table listening to Becker describe to us how Sebastian had gained the power to remove information from someones mind with his claws. This gets better and better. Sounds like something my family would have come up with. I sighed and patiently listened while my eyes wandered the room. Been doing my best to keep an eye on December Carnival and our new friend Kaleb. Something tells me that its good to keep you eye on someone who feels like they'd be tasty and someone who could, and would happily, chew threw your leg.
Brogan brought my attention back as the group stood, "I'm going to get a drink. Want anything?" I shook my head, already planning on grabbing something to drink away from the populous. He wandered off while I waited. Out of no where I got that horrible prickly feeling on the back of my neck where the hairs started to stand on end. It was getting real uncomfortable. Quickly I spun around only to come eye to eye with a silver dragon pendant. Slowly my gaze rolled up another foot to meet the stare of Cullpepper.
"Don't do that. You scared me for a second." When started, I'm more blunt then normal.
"Good, thats my job. So tomorrow night, your in command."
I blinked at him for a moment. "In command of what?"
"Everything. Your taking my place sense I won't be here." My jaw dropped. If I had been a breathing mortal I would have hyperventilated and passed out on the floor. But instead I stood there probably looking rather stupid and dumbstruck.
"But, but, but....why me?" I finally stuttered.
"Your the one who asked me about becoming a Grandmaster. So here's a little taste. I'll want a full report first thing Monday morning."
"Yes sir." Everything had gone a bit fuzzy on the edges as he patted my shoulder and went to finish the rest of his nightly business.
Brogan seemed to have appeared at my side out of no where with his new drink.
"So, what did Cullpepper have to say?" he asked as he casually sipped.
"He put me in charge of tomorrow." It felt alien to say.
"Ah. Well then. You'll do fine." Count on the former Grandmaster to never skip a beat or show surprise.
