Such is the state of our times:
While running a Cub Scout (ages 8-11) meeting last night, one of the kids presented two poems to the group.
The first was very sophisticated, and dealt with the futility of war.
But the second... oh, the second...
It was called 'Wine' and basically involved him staggering around, slurring rhymes (eg. "Wwwat yooo looking at, yoowlittle punk? OOrgh, now I'm drunk...")
The other kids thought his was bloody hilarious and cheered and laughed. They're all about nine or ten remember!
I thought this wasn't, you know, appropriate exactly, so when he finished I said "So I think the message there was don't drink, eh? I don't drink."
They laughed at this, and one said "Oh, but you have to drink at your eighteenth."
"Yeah, at your eighteenth!" others joined in.
I shook my head. "I didn't drink at my eighteenth."
The room went dead silent and, I kid you not, about half a dozen jaws dropped as they all stared at me.
From the middle of the group a wide eyed boy piped up:
"Get. Out!"

drunks,
