Let's get away

The case that the BAU was called in for had been just South of Los Angeles. When it was completed, Derek had stayed behind and taken a cab to L.A. If he was this close, he wasn't going to miss seeing Lucy. She showed up at his hotel room and immediately the clothes had come off. They both joked that they did booty calls, but deep down they both knew that their relationship was deeper than that. There were barely any words said aside from their hello's in lieu of the distinct need to feel each other. But then that was what long-distance did to a relationship. Everything got pushed aside as the physical need built up and built up. Anything else could come after wards.

And it did. They lay in the bed, limbs tangled together beneath the sheets as they cuddled together. Derek's fingertips lightly traced from shoulder to shoulder over her back. "I forgot to say I missed you." He smirked lightly. It was one of the things that had gotten lost in the tumble of clothes to the floor and the trek to the bed.

"Really?" Lucy responded, wrinkling her nose slightly. "Because I thought you said it just fine. Over and over again," she smiled, pressing a kiss to his shoulder. "Wish I could return the sentiment," she teased him. She reached up to run her fingers over the light stubble on his jaw then stretching to press a kiss to his jaw. "I missed you too, Pretty Boy."

"Oh, I got the message, Baby Girl. Our football team has no problem with calling the plays." He leaned his chin into that kiss at his jaw and glided his fingertips down along the line of her spine. "Gotta say it's nice to hear though."

"This is nice. I should probably feel bad that I have a serial killer to thank for this but I don't. In fact I'm thinking of sending him a fruit basket in jail. Sans the file," Lucy teased him.

Derek tilted his head back around a full laugh and gave Lucy's backside a light swat. "Keep the fruit basket to yourself and just be glad we have some time together. You don't have to feel bad about anything. In fact, you're supposed to be doing pretty damn good right now. Don't bruise your man's ego alright? Tell me it was good."

Lucy laughed at that, dipping her head and kissing Derek's chest. "I am friggin' awesome sauce right now. And so are you," she smiled at him. She ran her toes up his calf to the back of his knee. "How long do we have?" she asked quietly, trying not let the knowledge that he'd have to leave again soon taint what they had right now.

"Gotta head back tomorrow around noon. Think my flight's at 12:35? Not sure, should check online sometime today." He answered, lifting his knee slightly to give her foot room to play. With he and Lucy there was always a goodbye. That was part of the distance aspect of their relationship that wasn't so enjoyable. But with the goodbye's there were always hello's like the ones they had just had that evened it out. "So maybe in the morning we can go get breakfast and coffee then I can either get a cab or you can get me to the airport. This is a short getaway."

"I'll take you," Lucy told him. "I brought my car. Breakfast and coffee sound good though." She thought maybe the goodbyes were what made everything work between them so well. He never had time to get tired of her. "Short getaways are okay, as long as you can get away to see me." She ran her foot back down his leg, the arch of her foot pressed against his calf. "How was the case? I notice you avoided narrowly getting yourself blown up or shot."

Derek rested back and closed his eyes, his fingers lighly sliding up and down over her spine. "Didn't end as well as we had hoped, but at least it ended. The guy won't be killing anyone else and that's the most important thing. All I got this time was a bunch of running around. Team went home but I was too close to here to not stop by for a day, you know?" Rolling onto his side, he pushed Lucy onto her back. He rested his elbow on the pillows and his head in his hand to look down to her. "I just hate cases where kids are involved. Doesn't settle well with me. They can't always protect themselves. They don't know how."

Lucy furrowed her brow and unconsciously pouted, the corners of her mouth turning down. She laid the flat of her palm on his cheek, her fingertips resting lightly against his skin. "Baby, I'm sorry," she whispered, leaning up slightly to kiss the corner of his mouth. "People who hurt kids should be put in a room with someone much meaner than me and then be carried out in a bag." She'd gone through that with Jill, seen the bruises and comforted her friend over them. Lucy wrapped one arm around Derek's waist, her hand resting on his back.

A silence settled around the both of them for a moment before Derek lifted his eyebrows and nodded. "Yeah they should. But it doesn't always happen that way unfortunately." Grinning, he draped one leg over her and shifted to hold himself up on top of her. "But let's talk about you and our short getaway. That's a better topic." Amazingly enough, not as personal a topic as they had been on. "What do you think you should get now?" He teased, rolling his hips down and back up.

"Hmmm," Lucy pretended to think about that, her index finger tapping on the corner of her mouth. "A pony?" she asked brightly.

He leaned down to kiss her around a chuckle that rumbled deep in his chest. "Well, I don't know about a pony but I can sure as hell give you a good ride."
