"If you don't remember something anymore, at what point does it become like it never happened?

This isn't a rhetorical question; I want honest opinions and personal experience. If there was once one thing that totally defined you, if you get over it, are you still you? If there was a person that was your world, and then they were gone, what's the point of anything anymore? If you find someone new, does the world change? No, obviously it doesn't, that's retarded, but you change. How long does it take before you don't recognize you anymore? Is it scary?"

Now that's a lot of questions, quite a task.
The kind of thing that human's need to ask.

You can close the door,
On who you were before,
Lock and bar your former self away.
There's a prisoner there,
Deep inside, somewhere,
Never free to see the light of day.

Someone who you were,
hides deep inside there,
While your new self laughs
and spreads its wings.
But the prisoner
bars his door and hides there,
able to reach out and pull your strings.

*Chuckles,*

You telling me you don't have any experience of that?

That's cold, man. Plus it rhymes.

I ain't never been known for tact, but you wanted the facts and there they are. You are who who you are and what your memories make you. Even humans are who they think you are, too.

You push that part of your mind and memories away like that, you get the world around you changing so nobody knows who you were and you ain't the same person. He'll still be in there, though.
You think you'd get on well with yourself? Some do.

No. Me and me don't get along. And I don't blame me.

Heh, that's gloomy - but if you really don't blame yourself you've got a better chance of coming through it.

It gets really grim if you'd ever have thought that someone who did what you did ought to be punished. You can catch Hell and the person who can throw it at you, why he's right there inside, finding out all that you know about yourself.

Didn't you ever do anything that you'd have wanted a perpetrator punished for?
