My best friend's father is dead. Apparently he died several days ago, but I didn't find out until today when Rachel invited me to the funeral tomorrow. I thought she was at Girl's Camp, and wouldn't be home until tomorrow. She says her mother picked her up early.
When someone's boyfriend breaks up with them, you're supposed to buy them junk food and watch a bad movie together. What do you do when someone's father has just died? If it were me I would want to be held and rocked and told it was all okay. Rachel didn't want me to come over, she just said she'd see me tomorrow, at the funeral. The initial shock must have already worn off- the funeral's tomorrow, so I think he died either Wednesday or Thursday, as Rachel left Tuesday for camp and he was fine then. She mentioned that her father was having gall bladder surgery that day, and I knew he'd been sick, but I didn't think it was anything to worry about.
I feel so bad for her, and I wish I knew what to say to make her feel better.
