so on a whim i went to another sustainability convergence this time in santa cruz! so venturing on my own i got a ride with these really chill people from berkeley and it was a fucking awesome trip. Saturday we had workshops in the morning and early afternoon that completely changed my way of thinking in consumerism, waste and our linear cycle to destruction. Durring the breaks we got organic vegan food for free! and the ride was free thanks to a sustainable club on campus! so i didnt have to spend any money while i went down there. then after the workshops i met this random chick from santa barabra and she showed me around campus and then we went to her friends apartment and smoked from his steam roller while we chilled on his balcony and talked to people as they walked by. So many bikes out front! and justin played the guitar the whole time. after we met up with everyone again and had dinner and then we went to the campsite whent he best part happened! There was a fat party around a fire and everyone was playing music, dancing, singing, drinking and having a good time. i got cross faded and drummed my ass off! 4 hours straight into the night we played not knowing eachother or caring but just connecting through music and the motivation to change the world. it was inspirational. my hands were completely fucked up on sunday and still hurtt today although i didnt notice saturday night because of my intoxication. but it was great and i met such a chill ass group of people and its awesome cause i feel like i found my niche here.
so......Im going to the UC regents meeting with some other people to try and convince the board to incorpaorate sustainability into the inevestsments and funds of all UCs. this includes more use in renewable energy, more compost and recycling, buying local organic food for the DCs, stop funding nuclear weapons research, end contract with brittish petroleum, and be a leading example to the rest of the nation that as we stand for CA's future we are committed to living more sustainably. And if they dont agree in the end......
Im joing the tree sitters with my buddies and are gonna fight for it!
(This is not to get confused with the tree sitters in front of the stadium opposing the new training facility, this is a new group of tree sitters directly on campus advocating for three things.
1. the end to the contrat with BP
2. release 1,300 Native American skeleton bones to their ancestors
3. End nuclear weapon research
and as a final goal to democratize the UC regents, which personaly I think is more of an idealistic goal for the future.
SOOOOO i might be living in a tree for a while guys. ill keep you posted
