why tumblr sucks

Aug 10, 2012 10:27

Because if I want to reply to someone else's post, I have to post the whole thing on my wall for all of my followers to see. Which seems to me like a recipe for wank.

Also, I only want to post pretty pictures and fancy quotes dammit!

THIS. If tumblr really wants to get a foothold in social media, this must change. So say we.

I agree. I loathe tumblr because it seems like it discourages actual interaction. Everybody's just shooting stuff out into the void, and it seems HORRIBLE to me. I refuse to go there.

I feel like it was originally designed to accommodate easy visual reblogging...you know, art vs. words. A way to disperse pretty pictures, and for that, it's great. But artists NEED feedback and conversation, and tumblr isn't just about the pretty picture anymore! Get with it, tumblr.

The fact that people post fic and textual meta there just blows my mind. The fact that people I'm friends with do it--people who are not 14 years old--blows my mind even more.

It is NOT ideal. I never read fic on tumblr, and seldom read articles or lengthy comments. *hugs LJ*

I think that it is possible to interact over there. From what I've gleaned there are a lot of folks who have met and become great friends on tumblr. I just don't enjoy the way you have to go about it. It seems rather exhibitionist. SOOO not my style.

Here, there are like, levels of exposure, and a much finer sense of being able to control that.

I guess it's a method of communication I just don't get, but the interactivity seems minimal. I just hate the place beyond reason. LOL

Yeah, I mean, Is the "leave a comment" button such a complex idea? As it is right now, every time I read an opinion post, and feel like I have my own two cents to add, my instinct is to hop back over to LJ, and post about it over here.

AGREED. Salty has a good point, too. You have to be a bit of an exhibitionist on tumblr, which I'm not. I've observed more on-line friendships fall apart on tumblr than any other social media. Weird, huh?

Exhibitionist. Yes. That's what I said too! Not to my taste. Not at all. That's why right now, I just use it to basically "save" fannish graphics and gifs that I like. I'm really not there to make friends.

Whatever actual (virtual) friends I have on tumblr, I initially met on LJ. So there ya go! LJ wins so ... LJ wins. ;)
