~ KRYCEK!!!!!!!!!!! (Yeah, sorry. I can't refer to him as anything else...)
~ Dean: Awesome Ezra: Are you some religious kook? Krycek: No, he just likes sayin' that. Yep. So now every time I say the word "awesome" I'm gonna think of this episode and giggle.
~ Dean: I learned it from watching you! Heeheehee! Anyone else catch that shout-out to the old anti-drug PSA from the 80's? It makes me feel good when all Dean's pop-culture references are my pop-culture references! :D I think if I could hang out with Dean I'd make him watch Robot Chicken..... right before I stuck my tongue down his throat, obvs.
~November 5th!!! That's the date from Back to the Future!!! November 5th, 1955!!! And it turns out "Time after Time" (the movie from 1979) is set the week of Nov 5th also!! Layers of references! There was also the reference to Biff and the Sports Almanac, and the thing with the letter and yeah. Just. TIME TRAVEL IS FUN, YO!
~The period slang was so good that I really didn't understand half of it. But... Lettuce=money! That one needs to make a comeback. Umm, also there was Krycek's I'm gonna stick around here and keep my peepers on the Sheikh and the Sheba. That one totally wins coolest period-specific line!
~Jody Mills threatening to use her Mom Voice was sweet, but also a reminder of the fact that she's not only lost Bobby, but a husband and son as well. Still, I'm glad the boys have a maternal figure in their life again, even if just for a little while... And I like how they used her to allow Sam a moment of like, well-adjusted-person-mourning, which Dean can't exactly handle right now It was very sweet. And then she cuddles strangled!Dean!!!!! YES, CUDDLES.
~Everything involving Dean's letter. The Department of Homeland Termite Inspection, how he takes the PILLOW and lies on the floor (he doesn't NEED a pillow. He WANTS a pillow!) and squirms around and is all Huh? Whah? Yes! No! NOT TO WORRY! when the old guy checks up on him and he gives him a thumbs up, and then we see his GORGEOUS OXFORD SHOES as he walks across the old rug and kinda grunts yeah, and flicks open his pocket knife. GHHHHHAAAAAAHHH. WHY DO I LOVE ALL OF THIS SO MUCH????? And then Sam literally FLOPPING into bed and the look on his face when he does a double take and finally makes out his name carved into the baseboard. And Dean's all-caps handwriting and YES THAT ONE!
~ Krycek's hunting speech! OMG, it's like everything I want Dean to be able to feel about hunting! I've always been of the school that their job is awesome, and it's all the angels and demons crap that's just getting in the way of Dean having an awesome time. And it's just so so true what Krycek says: Hunting sets me free and At least you’re making a difference. So enjoy it while it lasts ‘cause hunting’s the only clarity you’re gonna find in this life, and that makes you luckier than most. I mean, clearly, he doesn't have the whole story, and it's going to take a lot of working through issues for Dean to feel even remotely lucky, but this is what appeals to a lot of people about the show, I think, including myself. We don't just envy how close Sam and Dean are, and their epic love for each other. We envy how they don't have to schlep themselves to work every morning to a 9 to five job. We envy how they live on the skids, off the grid, untethered to to a mortgage and credit card debts and all the material possessions that are supposed to make you so very happy, but in the end they create anxiety and they certainly don't GIVE YOUR LIFE PURPOSE. The things the boys care about are things that really, really matter. And what they do really really matters. And to be able to know that? Yeah, that is lucky. I just want Dean to get that. If Dean is even close to having this attitude about hunting at the end of this season, I will be so incredibly satisfied. And I think its SO KEY that it's not about revenge, that it was never about revenge for Krycek, but just about DOING GOOD, seeing something bad happening and wanting to help. It just makes the whole thing so much more positive in nature. DEAN YOU LISTEN TO KRYCEK. KRYCEK KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKIN' ABOUT!
