I have to agree with you on this. No matter how funny i thought it was, and even though it didn't make me as uncomfortable as it made other fans (I mean, it's still better than to FORCE Jensen or Jared to talk about it at a convention, SQUICK!), I think they should have aimed for something more subtle, like maybe the editor saying how homoerotic she thought the story was, or how Sam and Dean were made for eachother, and THEN have Sam or Dean say they thought it was sick because they were brothers... Or you know, give WTF looks to tell us fangirls that YES, wincest is JUST us being nuts, it's not PLAUSIBLE.
I think you gotta blame that on the writer of the episode. If Sera Gamble had wrote it, no doubt she would have made a much more plausible and subtle reference, aka shoutouts, with the boys being called "pretty", someone falling on pie, the dragon fairy-tale (TWOP recaps), even the editor having the tatoo on her ass. Or "You're bossy. And short." ... all these are great examples that the show can make subtle references to dedicated people who love the show, saying "yes, we know you're out there. yes, we know what you say, and we know you're SMART ENOUGH to understand our winks".

Absolutely! Could have been done with so much more finesse. And the sad thing is that in the end, they're the ones that come across as NOT smart enough.
