[Donatello has been hiding out in his apartment for most of the past two weeks (i.e. his entire time in Luceti) because, well, that's what mutant turtles do. And also because 90% of his fellow inmates, including his brothers, seemed to have gone insaneNow, though, a semblance of normalcy has been restored, and Don has decided to test this thing ( Read more... )

[Assuming that this is earlier in the day and before any... shenanigans, Raine will have to pass by this way after school is out. She's carrying a bad full of students papers, and some books. He might recognize her from that meeting a few weeks ago, at the very least, should he look up.]

[Oh, it's what's-her-name, who was running the town meeting. Wasn't she a teacher, also? She must be a very wise and important person. He doesn't have a good reason to interrupt her from her business, so he'll just go back to his book.]

[Raine'll notice him as she walks by anyway. Leonardo...? No, he wore blue. She didn't really catch the names of the others, either, but now is as good a time as any to start.]

That seems like it must be quite the read.

I'm getting through it. [He shows her the book.] Aviation mechanics.

Oh? [She takes a good look at it.] How fascinating... I don't believe I've read this one before.

[Smile.] It's a big library. Probably not many people start with this.

Probably not. I've also fallen behind on my reading habits considerably, and there always seems to be something new.

Really?

[Deep breaths, Donatello. There's already enough books in that library to keep even you occupied for a long time.]

I mean - that's good to hear. About there always being something new. Not about you falling behind on reading.

I figured as much, so don't worry.

I remember a time when the library didn't have nearly the same amount of books that it has now. Proof that the collection is still growing, little by little.

Oh? ... Where do the new books come from? Luceti doesn't have a - publishing industry, does it?

No... not exactly. The Malnosso themselves more than likely send new things in so we don't entirely die of boredom.

Oh, they - [Blink.] Wait, you mean they cause things to appear, inside the barrier? ... Does anyone ever see these things at the moment of materialization?

No, they don't. It's likely a result of shifting - the same could be said for the food supply in the stores, or certain clothing or items appearing in the shop.

[Hmm... so, all the necessities for life in Luceti are sent in, by mysterious mean, by their equally-mysterious captors. Well, that sounds like a recipe for a truly devastating siege.]

We're... really at their mercy, aren't we?

That truly is the situation, regardless of how powerful anyone was in their own world.

[Every kind of freedom is just a new kind of imprisonment.]

You seem... resigned to it. Have you been here a long time?
