Ugh.

I am sincerely disturbed tonight about everything. Last night I watched a television show about proposition 8 and I thought to myself "good job California on being stupid!" I continued to watch CNN as one of the ladies from "the View" questioned a black judge and Dan Savage. The amount of hypocrisy coming from the black judge and his compatriots of the religious right were disturbing. Thing that ignored the past 200 years of the American existence. Dan Savage pointed out the powerful fact that majorities are wrong and that at times this is what our constitution is all about.

FOR INSTANCE.

I quote James Madison from "the Federalist" at a point where the very ratification of the constitution was in question. James Madison quoth "public good is disregarded in the conflicts of rival parties; and that measures are too often decided not according to the rules of justice and the rights of the minor party, but by the superior force of an interested and overbearing majority." I think that the problems of Prop 8 are aptly represented here. The religious right is wrong. As always. Conveniently forgetting the very basis from which our country is founded in the face of "democracy" and "popular vote" are ridiculous. The mob is occasionally wrong and this is a fact.
